david-finlayson-picA message to Percy Paris (MLA for Waverley, Fall River, Beaverbank) and Mayor Peter Kelly, Jan 27, 2009.

A note to Percy Paris and Mayor Kelly… I understand that everyone was concerned about a possible work stoppage. Calling out the HRSB on timing is not a fair comment to be making on the elected board.

We have given a tender to Stock which we expected them to fufill. I don’t know many tenders in the world where you can go back on you bid price and not be penalised, but in fact be rewarded.

When bidding these contracts, the company and indeed the Union should have known that they would be seeking wage increases and bid this in their contract. I am pretty sure they were not facing stiff competition on this bid.

I would love to see the margin this company is making that is “forcing” HRSB or the DOE to step in and help support their company.

I am strongly in favour of higher wages for important roles in HRSB operations such as Stock staff. I do know that if my company bid on a contract, unless there were seriously extenuating circumstances, we would be forced to fulfill this contract or face potentially damaging penalties.

Instead of taking potshots at HRSB staff, feel free to constructively lobby the government for more funding or indeed bring some of your ideas to the table that would help improve the quality of education in HRSB and the province.
Regards
Dave
