April Traffic Unit Update
In their continued effort to address road safety issues and educate citizens on the rules of the road, members of the HRP/RCMP Integrated Traffic Unit are focusing on vehicle safety compliance throughout April.
In doing so, officers will be ensuring vehicles don’t have bald tires, cracked windshields, exhaust issues or other faulty equipment.
A number of daytime checkpoints will be conducted, some in partnership with Nova Scotia Motor Vehicle Compliance Officers. Safe vehicles are an important component of overall road safety. All motorists are asked to check their vehicle’s safety inspection sticker to ensure it is up-to-date.
Regardless of who owns a vehicle, it’s the driver’s responsibility to ensure their safety inspection, permit and insurance are current; if not, it’s the driver who will be ticketed.
In March, officers in the unit focused on ensuring motorists were adhering to laws surrounding the use of running lights and cell phones.
They wrote 1,101 tickets during the month, including 77 for not using daytime running lights and 34 for using a cell phone while operating a motor vehicle.
