bedford-councilThe Bedford Community Council Association wishes to advise Bedford residents that work is still ongoing with respect to its mandate of attempting to improve the existing governance structure of the Halifax Regional Municipality such that communities such as Bedford have more input in the day to day community-centric issues.

We have expanded our “audience” to include all areas of the Municipality to ensure that it is realized that this is not just a Bedford issue and that all communities can benefit.

Unfortunately, however, due to work and family commitments, the Association has recently lost three of its Directors. Therefore, we are looking for Bedford residents interested in making Bedford better.

For your information, the Association has recently agreed to branch out and become more involved in Bedford activities by helping to form a Bedford Improvement District Committee and/or Bedford Mainstreet Organization.

To help get our word out, the Bedford Community Council Association will be holding a “Meet & Greet” on Thursday, March 5th, at Brewsters Restaurant, 961 Bedford Highway, 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.

Please drop in to see what we have been doing and to also see how you might help. If successful, we hope to have additional “Meet & Greets” throughout the Municipality.

As well, we will also be co-hosting a Community Meeting with the local Councillor, Tim Outhit, on Thursday, April 2nd, at 7:00 p.m. at Basinview School.

Residents will receive an update on Bedford issues such as the Fast Ferry, the former Fire Station building, the 4-Plex Rink, etc. and also have an opportunity to speak with various Halifax Regional Municipality staff members on issues of concern.

Representatives of all three levels of government and the Halifax Regional School Board have also been invited to attend to respond to issues and concerns.

It is hoped that our website, www.futureofbedford.com, becomes a site that you will bookmark to obtain up-to-date information on Bedford activities and we welcome your input in this regard.

If you have any Bedford activities that you want on our Calendar, have photos of Bedford, or just have questions or opinions on our site, please contact Donna Lugar at 835-5643, donna.lugar@ns.sympatico.ca, or via the website.
