Bedford Players Theatre is now presenting Bedroom Farce, a comedy by Alan Aykbourn. Just like previous shows put on by the Bedford Players, Bedroom Farce is very funny and extremely entertaining.

It is a very enjoyable way to pass the evening, so purchase your tickets and support your local community theatre.

Stacey Fownes, director of Bedroom Farce, explains that the production “is actually a comedy, and not a farce at all.

The characters are all very real, with very human flaws that we can all relate to. The subject material, a troubled marriage, is something we see every day. ”

“It’s funny how the cracks in one relationship can show the imperfections in others,” adds Fownes.

The performance runs until May 8 (Thursday to Saturday), with a matinee on Sunday, May 2 at 2 p.m.
Doors open at 7 p.m., Curtain Up 8 p.m.
Location: All Saints Anglican Church, 1408 Bedford Highway
Tickets: Adults $15, Seniors (60+) and students $12
($1 will be donated to the Red Cross Haitian Fund)

The Cast:

Jim Lindsey (Ernest) was recently the priest in the hit Nova Scotian drama Shore Leave, which will travel to Dartmouth Players Theatre in September for a new run as the first play of their 2010 fall season. The father in Pardis Parker’s 2009 Atlantic Film Festival short The Road Not Taken. The parole board officer in The Trailer Park Boys Countdown to Liquor Day. A town councilman in the Tom Selleck movie No Remorse, and is currently at work on the novel A Traveller’s Guide for Lost Souls.

Sandy Mitchell (Delia) is extremely excited to be appearing in this very amusing play. Previous appearances were in The Murder Room and The Real Inspector Hound (Bedford Players) and Caught In The Net and Crazy For You (Dartmouth Players). When not on the stage Sandy can usually be found working behind the scenes in one capacity or another. She says it’s been a lot of fun working with this very talented, and creative, cast and production crew and hopes to do it again someday. Her greatest fear is that when her husband, Bill, sees the play he might recognize “Delia” as the woman he married!!! Enjoy the show.

Brad Morrison (Nick) has the type of day job that has moved him to various communities throughout the province. This has allowed him to pursue his real mission…to perform in every community theatre in Nova Scotia! Brad’s quest began in 2006 with the Playmakers of Glasgow Square in John O’Brien’s Break a Leg. He then went on to perform in a musical in Amherst and a dinner theatre and a one act play in Antigonish. He recently finished a successful run as Andy in Dartmouth Player’s Woman in Mind. Brad has been floored by the generosity and talent of everyone at Bedford Players and he hopes to be back soon!

Wendy Hutt (Jan) is a lifelong resident of Bedford, and one of the original members of Bedford Players. She has also acted with Dartmouth Players, and in the Liverpool International Theatre Festival, the Fringe Festival and at the DeCoste Centre. Wendy has appeared in No Sex Please, We’re British, Beside Yourself, and There Goes the Bride to name a few. Wendy has also dabbled in film work. In real life she is an elementary school teacher. Wendy has enjoyed taking part in this play, and sharing the stage with actors she has never had the pleasure of performing with before. She hopes you enjoy the show!

Curtis Skinner (Malcolm) hailing from Newfoundland, has been an actor for fifteen years. This is his third show in a row with Bedford Players, and he’s proud and honoured by the confidence that Bedford Players has put on him. A big thank you to his wife to be, Lori Baker, for enduring the numerous characters. Also a big thank you to Mom and Dad.

Clair Henderson (Kate) originally from the NE of England, but spent most of her adult life in the SW, as a member of Royal Navy. This, her chosen career for 22 years, was where she became a member of the Royal Navy Theatre Association. As an Actor, Clair has been in productions ranging from farce/pantomime to solemn psychological drama. She won Best Actress Award for her portrayal of a paranoid psychotic female in a One Act Play festival, an award for which she is really proud. Her favourite role was as the Wife of Bath (Canterbury Tales-Chauser) and the RNTA took this production to Edinburgh Fringe Festival. They took Edinburgh by storm getting rave reviews. Since making Canada her home Clari chose to volunteer for Bedford Players because she found everyone very welcoming and friendly, and felt it to be a good place to rekindle her thespianism! Clair is extremely happy to be back on stage in the role of Kate in this very funny play, Bedroom Farce.

Joshua Lawrence (Trevor) Bedroom Farce is Joshua’s stage debut, although he has written many plays, short films and stories including a graphic novel titled “The Legendary and Heroic Quest of the Eight Forgotten Toons” and a full-length novel titled “Apocalypse Joe.” He has also written and directed the one-act production “The Murder of Julianna Santiago” which premiered at the Rebecca Cohn Auditorium in fall 2003.

Ellen Oldford (Susannah) originally from Newfoundland, first became involved in theatre in 2003 when she joined the Corner Brook community theatre group Off-Broadway Players. Her past performances include such productions as Night of the Living Dead where she played a zombie, as well as worked costume design and make-up for the show. She has also acted in such original works as Backyard Reality and Dinner and A Movie. Ellen rekindled her love for theatre after moving to Halifax form Calgary in 2008. She was most recently seen in Dartmouth Players production of Don’t Dress for Dinner in the spring of 2009. Now she is delighted to have the opportunity to play (and well, work) with the wonderful cast and crew of Bedford Players in Bedroom Farce.

Likewise, the choir will sing cherished classics like Flow gently sweet Afton and April Showers as well as newer popular works, including Paul Anka’s Put your head on my shoulder.

Another special treat is the debut of our brand new Shoreview String Quartet.

The choir first started meeting at the Old Fire Hall in Bedford in the spring of 1994, where the conditions were very crowded. (The Leisure Club itself officially started meeting at the Old Fire Hall in 1978).

The choir met only briefly at this location before moving to their current home, the Bedford Lawn Bowls Club, just before the 1994 Christmas concert.

The history of the orchestra is a bit sketchy. It appears to have started in 1977, one year before the official formation of the Bedford Leisure Club. Apparently, the orchestra performed at the Club’s opening ceremonies at the Old Fire Hall on Rutledge Street in Bedford.
