Approved Board Motions for Bedford Boundary Review

At the Regular Board Meeting on April 25, 2012, the Halifax Regional School Board approved the following motions for the Bedford Boundary Review.

1. It was moved and seconded (Poole/Blumenthal-Harrison) that the Board approve the recommendation from Senior Staff that students living west of Bicentennial Highway now in the Bedford South School boundary be redirected to the Basinview Drive Community School catchment area.

2. It was moved and seconded (Blumenthal-Harrison/Yee) that the Board approve the recommendation from Senior Staff that a boundary review be carried out including the following schools:

- Hammonds Plains Consolidated School
- Kingswood Elementary School
- Madeline Symonds Middle School
- Charles P. Allen High School
- All schools in the Sir John A. Macdonald High Family of Schools

Man in Bedford sprayed with bear spray by teens

At 8:08 p.m. a 37 year old male reported he was sprayed with bear spray in his face. This occurred in the 1400 block of the Bedford Highway in Bedford.

There was a verbal confrontation between him and a group of teens, which started as a result of the teens littering. One teen then sprayed him in the face with a sensory irritant.

The suspects were three teens (one female and two males). They fled on foot. The victim was treated by EHS at the scene but was not injured.

Suspects are described as a female with sandy blonde hair, wearing jeans,dark grey hoodie and carrying a large black purse. One male was wearing a multi-coloured grey/red/black hoodie and the second was wearing jeans and a charcoal grey zip up sweater. All were 14-16 years old.

Advisory to property owners

HRM Partners in Policing would like to offer some tips to help prevent property owners from being victimized as they arrange to have projects completed around their homes.

Every year, the HRP/RCMP Integrated Financial Crime Unit receives complaints from citizens who feel they have been defrauded after arranging to have work done on their property.

The most common complaints involve paving and landscaping work where an up-front deposit is required and little or no work is completed. The people involved in this type of scam also frequently change their company name which makes it difficult to hold them accountable when follow-up or warranty work is required.
