Police to provide extra patrols of Halifax parks
With the arrival of warm weather, there is increased usage of parks and green spaces in the Halifax Regional Municipality. As such, Halifax Regional Police will be assigning extra patrols to ensure the safe and lawful enjoyment of city parks.
Officers are placing a special emphasis on illegal behaviour in parks including youth issues such as underage drinking, property damage, littering, lighting open fires and creating disturbances.
These patrols will take place on the weekends during the evening and overnight hours. They are scheduled to run through the summer, concluding after the Labour Day weekend.
Police are asking citizens to call 911 if they see anyone in the act of committing an offence.
Furthermore, if citizens have any information which may lead to the arrest of an individual who has committed an offence, they’re asked to call 490-5020 or contact Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477.
City parks are open from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m., unless otherwise posted. People found in a park after these times are subject to a $222 fine under the HRM By-Law P-600 Respecting Municipal Parks.
