J.L. Isley
Millwood
Lockview
Musquodoboit Rural
Sackville
Sir John A. Macdonald
Our schools are more than bricks and mortar. They are places that enable learning, places where young minds are inspired and futures are shaped. Yet, our school system faces real challenges including: declining enrollment, shifting populations, and aging infrastructure.
Your inpt will help determine how we can best meet the challenges before us, while ensuring the current and future educational needs of students are met.
Last spring, following the conclusion of Phase One, the Halifax Regional School Board put forward a number of recommendations as part of a 10-year Facilities Master Plan. These recommendations included requests for new schools, school renovations, school consolidations, and the review of three schools for possible permanent closure.
Phase Two will be completed in the spring of 2009 so please take the time to get involved. At the next community meetings the consultants will present the Background Report which includes a demographic profile of the region, enrolment projections, and capacity information and utilization rates for each school. Children are welcome.
The meeting for South Central HRM, which includes Charles P. Allen and Halifax West High Families of Schools will take place Thursday, January 22, 2009 at Basinview Community School at 7pm.
