public-library-smThe Bedford Public Library holds many events. Here is what is going on at your local library.

The library’s book club is a great way to meet new people, explore new authors and share reading ideas. On Tuesday, February 24 at 2pm, the book discussed will be Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert. Registration now on.

Ever wanted to try African dance? Check out this fun, energizing workshop on Saturday, February 14 at 2:30pm. Learn modern and traditional dances from across Africa. Presented by the Maritime Centre for African Dance. For all ages. Registration required. Call 490-5757.

Meet and play with other bridge lovers on Wednesday, February 4 and 18 at 6:30-8:30pm. Some experience necessary. Registration required. Call 490-5757.

An introduction to navigating the Internet and using a web browser. Prerequisite: Beyond the Basics or basic mouse, keyboard and Windows skills. On Saturday, January 31 at 9:30am. Please register.

Power Googling, an advanced level course, on Monday, February 23 at 10am. Learn to build a more effective Google search using special features. Prerequisite: Internet Searching Made Easy or proficiency with Internet searching. Registration required.

Learn to send, reply, forward and delete e-mail on Monday, February 6 at 10am. Prerequisite: How to Navigate the Internet or familiarity using web browsers. Registration required.

Teen Volunteer Opportunities, Ages 14-18. Do you have some spare time? Want to make a difference in your community? Check out the teen volunteer opportunities at the library this winter.

If working with children is your thing then you could be a children’s program assistant. Looking to share your love of reading with a younger child? Then try the Leading Readers Program. How about helping adults learn computer skills as an IT assistant?

Teen ESL Program-Ages 13-17. Open to all teens needing help with their English language skills. For more information, call Tatjana at 490-5757. Co-sponsored by the Cobequid Community Health Board. Tuesdays at 6:30-8:30pm.

Paws to Read, for Grades 2-5. Does your child need encouragement to read Maybe a reading therapy dog can help! Reading therapy dogs and their handlers are trained volunteers certified by Therapeutic Paws of Canada.

Paws to Read matches children who have trouble reading in Grades 2-5 with an audience that won’t judge their reading skills. Children will gain confidence reading to an excellent listener! Registration required. Tuesdays at 3:30pm.

BabyToddler Drop-In, for ages 0-35 months. A great time to introduce your child to the wonderful world of books. They’ll enjoy stories, songs, rhymes, puppets and musical instruments. Tuesdays at 10:15am, to March 10.

Just For Twos, age 2. Crawl through the magic tunnel and enter a world of imagination through stories, rhymes, musical instruments and crafts right for two-year-olds. Every second Thursday at 10:15am, until March 12. Registration required.

Storytime for ages 3-5. Stories, songs, finger-plays and rhymes help children in this program gain pre-reading skills and develop a love of reading. Fridays until March 13, at 10:30am. February 13 Special Hugs and Kisses Storytime.

Puppet Shows for all ages. Puppet shows bring favourite stories to life! Thursday, February 5 (Whinnie the Lovesick Dragon) and Thursday, February 19 (Flossie and the Fox) at 10:30am.
