Halifax Regional Police are investigating a suspicious fire this morning at a Bedford Motel.

At 9:23 a.m., police and fire responded to a report of a fire at the Maritime Motel, 1170 Bedford Highway. The fire, in a hallway on the building’s second level, was extinguished quickly by firefighters and damage was minimal. Responding police officers observed two men outside the building involved in a dispute, with one of them heard threatening the other.

A 51-year-old man was arrested for uttering threats. Fire investigators determined the fire to be suspicious in nature, and the investigation was turned over to police. The blaze did not result in any injuries.

The Integrated General Investigative Section is investigating, and will attempt to determine if there is a link between the fire and the dispute involving the two men. The 51-year-old is scheduled to appear in court later today charged with uttering threats and breaching a recognizance.
