TRICK OR TREAT!!!

A Message from Halifax Regional Police:

Halloween is today and Halifax Regional Police reminds trick-or-treaters, parents and drivers alike to take precautions during the evening.

Motorists should use extra caution, particularly in residential areas, while parents and children are encouraged to follow these recommended safety rules:

- Dress in a brightly coloured costume. Carry a flashlight and try to stay in well lit areas.
- Go trick-or-treating with at least one other person, or a responsible adult.
- Discuss your route with your parents before you leave and make sure they know what time you will be home.
- Try to limit criss-crossing the street. Go down one side of the street and up the other to limit the number of times you cross.
- Never go inside a house, apartment or car of someone you don’t know. Stay on the doorstep or sidewalk while trick-or-treating.
- Have your parents check your treats before eating them (and never argue with them when they take your good candy. They are your parents and this is in your best interest. Candy isn’t good for you!).

Halifax Regional Police will have extra members working throughout the evening. On top of our regular Patrol compliment, our Community Response Officers will be out in their communities and the Integrated Traffic Unit will be monitoring speeds, crosswalks, and stop signs in residential areas to ensure the safety of children on the streets.
